Initial Design and Testing of Multiplayer Cooperative Game to Support Physical Activity in Schools

Recent studies have shown that children are not adequately physically active and there is a need to increase children’s physical activity. This study describes new opportunities solutions for using existing games gamification activity among in Sweden. We adopted the principles of Tic-Tac-Training redesign, build, test classical multiplayer cooperative game, Battleship, create PA game experience as fun engaging. The low fidelity prototype was developed an iterative development life cycle tested with 13 young male aged 8–11 real-world informal setting. A mixed-method research approach used understand users’ experiences impact Battleship-PA on behavior change regarding Research data were collected through audio recordings interactions, direct observation, user questionnaire. results this indicate both positive negative feedback can be improve experiences. from unfiltered revealed teams competitive, cooperated within their team, became excited whenever they destroyed opponent’s ships or close winning. However, felt bored exhausted when many tasks repeated several times session. Direct observation indicated enjoyed activities resulting playing game. participants who had previously played version Battleship confused about objectives concept analysis questionnaire most found easy play, motivating, engaging, interactive, fun, cooperative, visually appealing. Furthermore, agreed helped them strongly performing Future work needed interface, elements, prepare additional rewarding experience.
